Like a white page, according to Rob Bell, every life starts with a blank canvas and a blinking line.
We all have the opportunity to write, create, construct, and pursue whatever we like. Ironically, a constant focus on tomorrow — the big picture — often threatens to destroy our ambition.
Rather than focusing on the full process, focus on today. Better yet, focus on this moment right now.
In the words of Rob Bell:
“Far too often, we don’t start because we can’t get our minds around the entire thing. We don’t take the first step because we can’t figure out the seventeenth step. But you don’t have to know the seventeenth step. You only have to know the first step. Because the first number is always 1. Start with 1.”
Don’t lose yourself in the fame of tomorrow, in the difficulties of the next year, or in the grind of creating a business. Losing yourself in tomorrow or a year from now distracts you from the present moment. It destroys your ability to do your best work now. And, in the end, it decreases your chance of future success.
“At any moment in the day, you can only do one thing at a time. And the more intentional you are about knowing what your 1 is, the more present you will be.”
